Mason Mayhem is a Balloon Fight style game that was made for PC and a winnitron arcade machine. Themed to my college, George Mason University, up to four players play as a variant of the patriot (Mason’s mascot) and fight three different bosses. Each playable character would’ve been made in a different art style, but one of them had to be replaced with another 2D character due to time issues. I worked on mostly the paper character before being moved to the sound team. This will be one of the few times I would include audio assets I made. You can visit the Itch.io page by clicking the Paper Patriot below.

At the start of the project, I was assigned to working on the Paper Character, who was a scrapbook or sketch style character. Each frame of this character was hand-drawn on tracing paper before scanning them on my computer by taking pictures of each frame and emailing them to myself. After this, I isolated each frame from the photo using Adobe Photoshop, where I also adjusted the size of the frames to better fit the character. This is the same process I used for creating a water spout hazard.

These are a few of the concept sketches of the paper character along with the idle frame. I also included the frames for the water spout hazard and the concept art for the background of the pond stage.

The animations were made in Adobe Photoshop, and includes an idle, floating, falling, death, shooting, walking, and hit for the paper character and the water spout hazard.

I was moved to the sound team halfway through production after the pond level was cut. While my focus is primarily with art and animation, I created many sound effects that I was proud of, and felt the need to include.

These are the ones I made for the unwilling participant, which I created myself:
